A Reluctant Emotional Support Animal

Gouda and I have lived together for eleven years this month. Honestly, she didn’t like me much at the beginning; but I wore her down. Together we have moved five times, married, divorced, survived two major natural disasters, weathered cycles of depression, anxiety, and good old fashioned loneliness (me), and lived through a false breast cancer scare (her). If I had to guess, she wouldn’t call herself an emotional support animal, but I know my mental health benefits from her company.
